Tomas graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, specialising in painting, conceptual art and new media. In 1993-1995 he worked as a film architect. Graduated in 1995. In 1995 he co-founded one of the leading production companies Dawson Productions, where he worked until 2011. During this period, he joined the ranks of acclaimed domestic advertising directors.

He has worked on multimedia projects, foreign music videos and commercials, filmed the awarded short film „Hotel“, and created jingles for the music television shows such as Point, BigBeat and MTV. He also co-produced the short film „Frikasé“ (directed by Martin Krejčí).

His advertising work has won awards at many festivals (Epica awards, Golden award of Montreaux, FF Impact, Utrecht, 14th Tokyo video festival, AME awards, Cresta awards, NY advertising festival, Effie, The Golden Drum, Gunn report and received several CZ Grammy nominations). He is a proud holder of the ADC Golden Fire Award (2009).

He made his debut as a producer, writer and director with the feature film „3 Seasons in Hell“ (2009), which was nominated for eleven Czech Lions, three of which the film won (Best Actor, Cinematography, Sound). The film was screened in the main competition at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (2010). At the Tallinn Film Festival (2010) the film received The Don Quixote Award of International Federation Film Clubs (FICC), and in 2009 3 Seasons in Hell also won the annual FITES (Czech Film and Television Union) Award.

His second film „Wilson city“(2015), was nominated for 4th Czech Lions. In 2018, he directed six of the eight episodes of the acclaimed TV series „Professor T.“, which was nominated for The Czech Lion in the Best Dramatic TV Series category.  In 2021, he worked on the award-winning TV series „Defender“ (2021, co-director T. Kopáčová), for which they scooped the most prestigious awards; The Czech Lion Award (the best drama series), the Czech Film Critics Award 2021 and the FITES Award 2022. He also co-wrote the screenplay of the feature film Šeptej (1996, dir. David Ondříček).

In 2022, he has completed widely acclaimed psychological love drama „Suppressed“ (premiere 9/2023) which was nominated for the Czech Lion Award in 7 categories, of which it won 2. In 2023 the film Brothers, inspired by the resistance group of the „Brothers“ (premiere 10/2023), which has been officially submitted by the Czech Republic for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 96th Academy Awards in 2024. This film had 15 nominations for the Czech Lion Award and won The Best Picture. In 2023 it also received the Special Jury Award at the 3Kino FilmFest.

Nominated for the Czech Lion for The Best directing 4x, for The Best picture 3x and The Best TV Series 2x.

He is also a stage director. He directed After the End“ (a psychological thriller play by D. Kelly) which was shortlisted for the 2019 Thalia Theatre Awards.

He also worked as creative director on Jiří Drahoš’s electoral campaign in the 2018 presidential election.
